The Lying Scotsman: Book Two in The Mug Trilogy
Best Book Bit:
Thinking Michael would be as anxious to see her as she was to set eyes on him, she said, ‘I’ll be back in a few hours. Can’t wait to see you.’
When she returned, the house was eerily silent. She expected him to be back at her home.
He might be sleeping in his room, she thought.
When she sent him a text to ask if he was up there, he rang her and filled her head with yet another lie. ‘I’m at Gatwick, about to fly back up to Scotland as Mum’s so ill. Don’t know how long I’ll be away.’
When she went into his room after the phone call, her world fell apart. Most of his belongings had disappeared. Among the items he’d left behind were his computer desk, leather swivel chair, a few clothes, his landline phone, several books and a large bottle of headache tablets. Worst of all, the little wooden heart she’d given him was sitting on the shelf. Sweating with fear, she then knew with complete certainty that Michael would be gone for a long time, maybe forever.
