Is it possible to raise well-adjusted children without losing your mind?

Parenting . . . A Work in Progress offers insightful strategies and humorous stories to guide seasoned, as well as new parents of children, newborn to adolescent.

Parenting has always been a trying job. Crypts found from the 11th century contain prayers from parents asking for help with their children. It’s the parents’ job to guide their children along the rocky road toward adulthood. Parenting . . . A Work in Progress can help you get there.

The five sections within this book cover elements of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional growth. In addition, each section contains chapters especially pertinent to that particular age group.

• The Infants and Toddlers section discusses potty training, temperament and attachment, prenatal drug use, and sleep disorders.

• The Early Childhood section covers play, discovery learning, behavior in public, nutrition, and teaching children about death.

• The Middle Childhood section includes self-esteem, parenting styles, love and friendship, and bullying.

• The Adolescence section covers organized thought, dreaming, peer pressure, eating disorders, and social media.

The information in the fifth section containing two chapters, “Divorce” and “Siblings,” pertains to all age groups. Many references for further reading are found within the body of the eBook and at the end of each section in print.

How Blue is my Valley

How Blue is my Valley

Humorous travel book about moving to France from IPPY and Global Ebook Award Winner Jean Gill

'Laugh out loud ... this autobiography from Welsh writer and photographer Jean Gill tells the tale of her first year in Provence - complete with challenging situations and thought-provoking musings. Jean takes readers on a tour of the beautiful Drome area, painting such a vivid picture of the fields of lavender, sunflowers and olive trees that you could almost be there with her.' - Living France Magazine The true scents of Provence? Lavender, thyme and septic tank. Discover the real Provence in good company. There are hundreds of interesting things you can do in a bath but washing dishes is not one of them, nor what writer Jean Gill had in mind when she swopped her Welsh Valley for a French one.

Keen to move out of the elephant's stomach, that stew of grey mists called weather in Wales, she offered her swimming certificate to a bemused Provencale estate agent and bought a house with good stars and its own spring-water. Or rather, as it turns out, a neighbour's spring-water that is the only supply to the kitchen, which, according to the nice men from the Water Board, is emptying its dirty water directly and illegally onto the main road... and there's worse ...

But how can you resist a village called Dieulefit, `God created it', the village 'where everyone belongs'.

A flavour of France, even for those who don't cook; food for the brain as well as the table. Why was goat cheese sent on an Apollo space mission? What should you wear if elected to the Guild of Olive Brothers? What is the connection between France's biggest cross-country car rally and the Picodon cheese? Entertain yourself and your dinner companions with fun facts aswell as recipes that are tried and tested.

Native Ukrainian Albina has transformed her life story into a powerful testimony, written in English, her third language, which she taught herself ten years ago. Miss Fortune tells the story of how childhood fears can dictate one's present and future, and the many challenges she faced in her quest to find happiness.

Currently, Albina and John Hume have dedicated their lives to preventing the South African rhino population from becoming extinct by breeding and protecting rhinos for future generations. More info →

HENRY: A Polish Swimmer’s True Story of Friendship from Auschwitz to America Kindle Edition

HENRY: A Polish Swimmer’s True Story of Friendship from Auschwitz to America Kindle Edition

When Katrina Shawver met the eighty-five year old Henry Zguda, he possessed an exceptional memory, a surprising cache of original documents and photos, and a knack for meeting the right people at the right time. Couched in the interview style of Tuesdays with Morrie, Henry relates in his own voice a life as a champion swimmer, interrupted by three years imprisoned in Auschwitz and Buchenwald as a Polish political prisoner. With a pragmatic gallows humor, and sense of hope, he showed the author how to truly live for today, preferably with a shot of good Polish vodka. Henry’s path of resiliency and power of connection are as relevant today, as they were in World War II.

Henry reminds us that no single class of people was safe from Hitler's reach or imprisonment, and no country suffered more under Hitler and Stalin than Poland. This bridge to history and view of the Holocaust through Polish eyes is supported by extensive research, and features more than 70 original photos and rare German documents. Ultimately, Henry is the story a strong young man, who survives by his wits, humor, friends, and a healthy dose of luck. This book is for the discerning adult looking for an intelligent read that examines World War II, the Holocaust, and the true meaning of friendship then and now. More info →

A Special Kind Of Evil: The Colonial Parkway Serial Killings Kindle Edition

A Special Kind Of Evil: The Colonial Parkway Serial Killings Kindle Edition

For four years a killer, or killers, stalked Virginia’s Tidewater region, carefully selecting victims, sending waves of terror into the local community

The Colonial Parkway Murders –the name given eight murders that took place in the Tidewater region in the late 1980’s, two of which were on the historic Colonial Parkway, the nation’s narrowest National Park. Young people in the prime of their lives were the targets. But the pattern that stitched this special kind of evil together was more like a spider web of theory, intrigue, and mathematics. Then, mysteriously, the killing spree stopped. The nameless predator, or predators, who stalked the Colonial Parkway stepped back into the mists of time and disappeared.

Now, father-daughter true crime authors Blaine Pardoe and Victoria Hester blow the dust off of these cases. Interviewing members of the families, friends, and members of law enforcement, they provide the first and most complete in-depth look at this string of horrific murders and disappearances. The author-investigators peel back the rumors and myths surrounding these crimes and provide new information never before revealed about the investigations. More info →

Living with Postcards

Living with Postcards

This non-fiction, colour-illustrated book describes my close relationship with old postcards, mainly fantasy ones. I've been collecting them since the 1970s and now own over two thousand of these charming, beautifully quirky historical items. I started fanatically collecting them while writing my thesis on Fantasy in Postcards at art college, where I was studying for a graphic design degree. My thesis won me a first with distinction, whereas my graphic art annoyingly gained me only a 2:2. I was asked by my art history tutor to lecture on the subject of Fantasy in Postcards. As I was only twenty-one at the time, I didn't feel ready, and opted to write this book instead. All the cards in my book are from my own large collection. More info →
