Humans have always looked to the stars for signs of Extraterrestrials.
They have been looking in the wrong place.
They are already here, entombed in a spaceship beneath Antarctic ice for thousands of years.
The ice is melting and they will soon be free.
A huge rift in the ice is discovered in Antarctica that stretches for 18 miles, (29 km) and 820 feet (250 meters) apart at its widest point.
When environmental scientists enter the ice rift to check out an anomaly on NASA's satellite scans of the area, they discover something far more life threatening than the raging blizzard trapping them in the rift. They are unarmed and unprepared for their ensuing fight for survival.
Ice Rift plot themes:
"An exciting adrenaline rush that rarely lets you stop for a breather."
"The story quickly draws you in and refuses to let go until the last page. An excellent adventure set in Antarctica. 10/10."
"The imaginative mind of the author has produced a thrilling action adventure horror filled with atmosphere and claustrophobic locations. I dreaded each time the characters opened another door. Highly enjoyable read."
"Atmospheric locations and a cleverly written plot full of surprises. Richard was my favourite character. It was easy to imagine myself exploring the spacecraft with them. I liked the way the scientists had no weapons to defend themselves with, but had to rely on their wits to survive. It made a change from the usual gung-ho hero machinegun killing scenarios."
The prologue alone sucked me into this book. NASA spotted an anomaly in antarctic ice and sent researchers to investigate. Low and behold, the anomaly is a space ship that crashed in the distant past and was buried in the ice. The researchers want to discover the new technology on this alien spacecraft.
Unfortunately, advanced technology had kept the occupants of the craft very alive and also very hungry. There is a lot more that I will refrain from sharing so that you can find out for yourself.
There wasn’t one part of this story that I didn’t enjoy. I absolutely loved the characters and the imaginative turns of the plot. It didn’t leave me with any unanswered questions, was fast paced, action packed, and a real thriller. I look forward to reading more from him.
I located the sequel to this book , Ice Rift: Salvage, which is just as great! I’m thrilled to to add Hammott to my list of favorite authors. I am really looking forward to his new book that will be released soon, Sarcophagus.
If you like Matthew Reilly, James Rollins, or Jeremy Robinson you will not be disappointed with Ben Hammott.
Awesome cast of characters, all well developed and not too many that you get confused. You learn to love and hate each one in turn and become a part of their journey. What I loved best was the growth of the characters. Strong independent Jane had to be the leading lady cause no one else would do. So strong yet learning to let some go, only to discover others waiting. Horrible Richard who had earned a special place in my heart by the end of his journey.
If you love aliens and great characters, you will love this book. If you enjoy movies such as Alien and The Thing, then you will love this book.
