Has this happened to you? You finish reading a chapter, put your book mark in to hold your place, lay the book on your bedside table and as you drift off to sleep you think, “I want to write a book!”

But then, in the morning the sun wakes you up to reality- “What do I know about writing a book? Oh, forget it!”

Well, now you have the GeezWriter series to help you. There are several books in the series, all by Stephen Geez:

GeezWriter How-To: Outlining: An Author’s Guide to Organizing and Planning to Write Novels, Memoirs, and Narratives

GeezWriter How-to Dialogue

GeezWriter How-To: Point of View: An Author’s Guide to Finessing Compelling Story Character Perspectives

GeezWriter How-To: Indie Publishing: An Author’s Guide to Planning an Independent, Subsidy, or Self-Publishing Strategy

I read GeezWriter How-To: Indie Publishing. This is a short book, but Author Geez provides a clear overview of all the basics. He tells us about the importance of editing and then describes the various paths to book publishing- traditional, vanity press, small publisher, self-publishing and what I would call supported self-publishing. The book also contains useful information about cover design.

GeezWriter is positive, practical and entertaining:

“No matter how well you write, I advocate having a professional book editor wade through your novel with a machete or laser or fine-tooth comb…”

“Avoid literary agents who charge fees.”

“Remember, your Aunt Ida Mae cannot or will not own an e-reader, but she would have been so proud to have a copy of your book.”

“You have books to publish, and GeezWriter helps you publish with the plan that’s right for you.”

I’m sure the author intended this to be a basic, introductory look at Indie Publishing. But that’s why I gave this book a Blue Bookworm. It only gives the reader the highlights- if you are looking for more than just a quick peek at publishing, you will have to read much more than this slim guide. But, if you want a quick overview of the topic- then this is the book for you! I do plan to read some of the other GeezWriter titles.
