Living with Postcards

Living with Postcards

This non-fiction, colour-illustrated book describes my close relationship with old postcards, mainly fantasy ones. I've been collecting them since the 1970s and now own over two thousand of these charming, beautifully quirky historical items. I started fanatically collecting them while writing my thesis on Fantasy in Postcards at art college, where I was studying for a graphic design degree. My thesis won me a first with distinction, whereas my graphic art annoyingly gained me only a 2:2. I was asked by my art history tutor to lecture on the subject of Fantasy in Postcards. As I was only twenty-one at the time, I didn't feel ready, and opted to write this book instead. All the cards in my book are from my own large collection. More info →

Her demonic Angel: and other short stories

Her demonic Angel: and other short stories

Her demonic Angel is a collection of all my short stories written thus far. I wrote this baker's dozen of short stories in a variety of genres, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy. Some tales are stranger than others, but all could be said to be different shades of dark. Despite its somewhat suggestive title, Her demonic Angel is not erotica. More info →

The main action in this character-led contemporary novel mostly takes place in rural Kent and London. Potholes and Magic Carpets looks at the dramatic incidents, challenges and temptations in the past and present lives of four couples of varying ages, professions and sexual persuasions, all linked by either blood or friendship. The negative, selfish, sometimes violent natures of some of the characters in Potholes and Magic Carpets wreak havoc on the innocent. A tale of not so simple folk. More info →

A Slice of the Seventies: First book of The Mug Trilogy

A Slice of the Seventies: First book of The Mug Trilogy

This first loosely autobiographical book in the Mug Trilogy tells the story of Jersey-born Mug, a troubled girl from a recently broken home. It covers her experiences as a sixteen-year-old girl at the Isle of Wight Music Festival in 1970, the same year that she follows a guru. It describes her tumultuous years as an art student in Coventry, where vegetarian Mug finds herself living next door to an abattoir and railway shunting yard with David, a fellow art student. Dramatic events follow on from the evening they meet at a student party, when Mug attempts to save David from attempting a very public drunken suicide attempt. Each book in the Mug Trilogy are stand-alone books and can be read without having to read all three. More info →

The Lying Scotsman: Book Two in The Mug Trilogy

The Lying Scotsman: Book Two in The Mug Trilogy

The words in this loosely autobiographical second book in the Mug Trilogy were triggered by the entanglement between Mug, a recently divorced, disinherited, temporarily sex-obsessed woman and Michael. Her Gordian knot was a complex, mendacious, Scottish baggage handler who destiny threw her way late one night in early 2004. She was an honest, too trusting, troubled woman in her late forties. He was an enigma eleven years her junior who was hiding many shocking secrets. Mug's original plan was to write about their unusual story as a present to give to him for Christmas. Little did she know that her gift would almost kill him. She had wanted the opportunity to describe in her book her life prior to their meeting, because it shaped how she felt about him, why she tolerated what others might deem unacceptable. The purpose of Mug's book was to drastically change into a desperate effort to make sense of unfolding bizarre events and to help them both deal with the aftermath. More info →
